The term Josephite-Marellian Laity refers to all baptized lay faithful who are committed to living the spirituality and participate in the common apostolic mission of the Oblates of St. Joseph, according to their own state of life either individually or in their membership or affiliation to any Oblate spiritual and apostolic works, institutions, associations or groups.
Members of the OSJ laity organization share in the work of the Oblates of St. Joseph by offering prayers, striving to live by the example of St. Joseph, and by sharing their financial blessings in order that God's work may continue in the USA and around the world through the ministries of the Oblate Congregation.
Laity members aim to help and support the apostolic ministry of the Oblates of St. Joseph and respond to the practical needs of the religious residence and the chapel of St. Joseph at the Pittston, PA location.
The Founder of the Oblates of St. Joseph, St. Joseph Marello (1844-1895), told his "spiritual sons", "live each day, striving to recognize the will of God in every event of your lives." Through his inspiring words and holy example, he has demonstrated that holiness can be achieved not only in great things but also in small or simple things done with great dedication and love. Another one of his inspiring maxims is to be "extraordinary in ordinary things", calling us to live in humble imitation of St. Joseph, the carpenter of Nazareth, who hiddenly served the Blessed Mother as her holy spouse, and the Child Jesus as His earthly father.
If you are interested in becoming enrolled as a Josephite-Marellian Laity member, contact President, Dr. Alyce M. Zura, at the seminary office (570) 654-7542. Members are encouraged to make the weekly spiritual commitment of participating in the Wednesday evening Mass and novena devotions to St. Joseph & St. Joseph Marello in the Chapel of St. Joseph at 7:00 pm. Monthly meetings are held every first Wednesday of the month, following Mass & novena, from September to June. At the current time due to the COVID pandemic, meetings have been suspended until further notice.
